Health Unit Coordinator: Emergency Dept

Patient Flow Enhancer

The Dickinson County Healthcare System (DCHS) seeks a part-time Patient Flow Enhancer to join their team in Iron Mountain, Michigan.

This position is responsible for assisting with direct and indirect care of patients while in our facility. This includes such tasks as cleaning, stocking, patient transport, data entry, assisting patients and families with comfort needs, patient specimen collection and completion of various paperwork.

RESPONSIBILITIES.

  • Monitor and restock supplies/forms needed for patient care (i.e., restock supply carts and warmers, put away sterilized instruments).
  • Transport and assist in the flow of patients (i.e., transports patients to pre-surgery center, IP units, etc., assist in preparing patients for procedures, ensures side rails are up and call light is within reach, move patients to their room after procedures, serve as a leader in fall reduction program).
  • Follow policies, procedures and compliance standards established by hospital and supervising staff; report any/all concerns to RN.
  • Clean patient rooms, instruments, back boards, etc., assist in the clean-up of operating room, staff room and nurses’ station, and collect data (vital signs, demographic information.)
  • Maintain professionalism and effective communication with hospital staff, care teams, patients and their families (progress updates, reasons for delay, guest directions/information, offer beverages).
  • Picks-up surgical cases and applies patient stickers to appropriate charts.
  • Prepare equipment and procedures (warm-up sterilizer, daily dart tests, spore cycle, etc.)

Registered Nurse (RN): Operating Room

Infection Prevention Specialist

The Dickinson County Healthcare System (DCHS) seeks a full-time Infection Prevention Specialist to join their Infection Control team in Iron Mountain, Michigan.

This position directs and manages the hospital infection prevention program including educating staff, consulting with the healthcare system, the CDC, county and state health departments, and investigating outbreaks.

This position supervises all DCHS employees with regard to infection prevention and reports to the Vice President of Clinical Services.

RESPONSIBILITIES.

  • Establish, implement, administer and enforce policies/procedures that ensure compliance with regulatory agencies (TJC, OSHA, CDC, CMS, county/state/federal agencies); conduct ongoing review of patient infection control measures, hospital policies, procedures and guidelines to identify infection control discrepancies; revise as needed.
  • Maintain ongoing relevant communication with hospital staff and other professional/non-professional team members to provide resource information, resolve infection control matters, and identify opportunities to improve service and reduce cost.
  • Develop financial budget for infection prevention; manage expenses within budgetary constraints.
  • Directs/assists with preparation of reports and statistical data regarding infection prevention for review by various committees.

Medical Technologists & Medical Lab Technicians (MT/MLT)

The Dickinson County Healthcare System seeks full-time, part-time, and team leaders for Medical Technologists and Medical Lab Technicians (MT/MLT) in Iron Mountain, Michigan.

This position performs procedures in the laboratory including routine testing, quality control, routine maintenance of instrumentation, and troubleshooting. The MT/MLT develops, performs, evaluates, interprets, correlates, and validates the accuracy of lab procedures and results ensuring all regulatory requirements are met. Testing procedures are performed on a variety of biological specimens using manual or automated techniques, following practices and regulations governing biosafety and biosecurity in the workplace. These require a broad exercise of independent judgment and responsibility, including organizing and setting priorities with minimal technical supervision. The work performed is in a variety of laboratory disciplines such as chemistry, microbiology, immunology, hematology, and immunohematology.

These positions report to the Laboratory Manager.

RESPONSIBILITIES.

  • Perform clinical lab procedures of moderate to high complexity in accord with established procedures; record results accurately.
  • Perform, document and evaluate quality control.
  • Perform routine preventive maintenance, calibration and troubleshooting on a variety of lab instruments.
  • Recognize abnormal results and apply appropriate judgement (i.e. evaluate pre-analytical and analytical variables prior to releasing results).

Dietary Clerk

The Dickinson County Healthcare System (DCHS) seeks a regular, part-time Dietary Clerk to join their team in Iron Mountain, Michigan.

The ideal candidate is someone task minded and able to accurately assemble patient trays, deliver meals, receive/record dietary orders using a computerized system, assist patients with menu selection, clean and sanitize soiled dishes, restock, and service the cafeteria including operating a cash register.

This position reports to the Food Services Supervisor.

RESPONSIBILITIES.

  • Assist patients with meal selection using a dietary management computer system and in coordination with diets as assigned by Dietician; communicate discrepancies and issues to Dietician as needed.
  • Assemble and deliver patient and guest trays according to menu selection; pick-up tray when patient is finished.
  • Deliver food and beverage orders to other departments; assist in preparation for and delivery of special function orders.
  • Serve meals and maintain proper supplies in the cafeteria; run cash register, receive, and count money accurately.
  • Operate dishwasher; wash dishes (pots, pans and carts) using proper cleaning and sanitation procedures.
  • Assist cook by cleaning vegetables, preparing salads and desserts, and performing various other food prep tasks as needed.
  • Follow safety and proper handling of food instructions and schedules accurately.
  • Maintain sanitary conditions at all times in food prep areas.

WORK SCHEDULE. This is a regular, part-time position with start times between 5:00am – 7:30am. Shifts are as assigned, typically 10 hours, and may vary depending on need. The Dietary Clerk participates in the weekend rotation schedule.

  • High school diploma or equivalent required.
  • Previous experience working in hospital food service, a restaurant, or in quantity food preparation preferred.
